Progress Update – WC 8th June
As a result of Covid-19 restrictions, we have been unable to get the contractors started on what is our biggest refurbishment project at The Crichton since 2012, but now we can! The site at Criffel View is now open and with hand sanitiser at the ready, Gordon Clark, Head of Property Services at The Crichton Trust, has now welcomed the first of our contractors onto the site. We look forward to providing you with regular updates and sharing the excitement of the Crichton Central development with you all.
We are very excited about the future world of work at #TheCrichton and all going to plan (a bigger challenge than normal in 2020), we will be ready to open the doors to Crichton Central early in 2021.
It’s early days, but you’ll be amazed to see some of the things we have already revealed, including a wide variety of wall tiles and paper including some children’s designs, which is of course a powerful reminder that Criffel View was once home to the children’s psychiatric unit within The Crichton Royal Hospital.
We have already had a contractor in to carry out a floor test and by sanding just a small part of the lacquered floor, we can already see just how amazing this building is going to be when we are finished. By the time the floor is sanded and polished it will look fantastic, just as it did when the building opened in 1898. Not only that, Kenny, our Facilities Manager at The Crichton Trust, has very cleverly made a pen from a small part of the flooring that was lifted – we always knew this project would inspire creativity and innovation and this is just the beginning!
We had plans to block off an archway within the building this week, but to our surprise we have just discovered two arches that we didn’t know existed. We are very intrigued as to what else we might reveal as the work progresses.
It’s not every week we remove 30+ Victorian cast iron radiators from The Crichton, but we have this week and it was heavy work!
The photographs below show the cafe, the co-working space, the meeting rooms and the radio station…can you see yourself working here? It’s difficult to visualise right now, but take our word for it – it’s going to look amazing and we are looking forward to welcoming you all to Crichton Central.
