Progress Update – August
During August, developments at Crichton Central reached new heights! It was a busy time for the plasterers as they made there way around the building, often on stilts, restoring and smoothing surfaces. Things are really starting to take shape!
It was all about performance on the 14 August, with a focus on new structures and our Crichton Central stage! The stage sits prominently at the far end of the main cafe. On a day to day basis, the stage will act as an extension to the seating and workspace within the cafe/lounge and when not in use to host public lectures or networking events, it will come to life as a stage for performing arts! We can’t wait to share details of our events programme and to put our new tech to good use! Watch this space!
By the 21 August, we were focused on making an entrance! The former Fresco Cafe was now unrecognisable and bit by bit the sandstone blocks were carefully removed to make what will become the main entrance to Crichton Central and yet another room with a view overlooking Solway House and Clock Tower and of course, Criffel! All going well, and pending the easing of coronavirus restrictions, we hope to open our doors and welcome you in to our new co-working and collaboration space early in 2021.
On the inside our new kitchen and meetings pods are coming together nicely too. If you choose to become a member of Crichton Central, you’ll be able to swipe yourself into the building, say morning to our friendly team, get yourself a cuppa (and maybe even a bacon roll or pastry!) from our new cafe and if you’re looking for a quiet place to get your head down and finish a report you can make your way through the cafe and into our members zone, where you can get yourself a desk or your own private pod! If you have plans to meet a colleague you’ll be most welcome to sit within our large spacious cafe or if you need a more private space to hold a meeting you’ll be able to call ahead and book one of our new meeting rooms! Look out for details of our membership packages in the new year or sign up to our Crichton Central mailing list and you’ll be one of the first to hear about our plans and packages!
As we continue to face the challenges of Covid-19, it is difficult to imagine where we might want to work in the future. Will you go back to your busy office, will you continue to work from home or will you return to your old ways and meet up in a cafe on the High Street? We predict things will change and that we are more likely to balance the time we spend working at home and in an office environment. For this reason, we think you’ll like the concept of Crichton Central, which will have a cafe, meeting rooms, desk space, events space, and private pods as well as the support services, facilities and network you need. If you still need to be convinced, Crichton Central is set within a thriving business park and a multi-institution academic campus and all within the beautifully maintained 85 acre parkland estate on the outskirts of Dumfries. The outside space has been a haven for local community throughout this pandemic, but The Crichton is also a great place to catch a breathe of fresh air or stretch your legs in between meetings or on your lunch break. We love it and we’re sure you will too!
