Changing Places, Changes Lives
Over a 1/4 of a million people rely on access to spacious and suitably equipped Changing Places Toilets and we are delighted to say that we are about to put another Changing Places Toilet on the map in the South of Scotland within our new co-working space at Crichton Central in Dumfries. The Crichton is already an accessible location, both indoors and out, but the addition of a Changing Places facility is set to change the lives of those who depend on these facilities when out and about in Dumfries and Galloway.
Changing Places Toilets really do change lives and The Changing Places Consortium have been campaigning to increase the number of Changing Places Toilets in the UK since 2006. Although accessible toilets can be easily found, they are not suitable for everyone and the Consortium has been campaigning to encourage venues across the UK to include standard toilets, accessible toilets and Changing Places Toilets in their buildings whenever possible.
Gwilym Gibbons, Chief Executive of The Crichton Trust said: “Here at The Crichton, we want everyone to feel welcome and included and no more so, than in our new Crichton Central co-working space which is scheduled to open in 2021. To invest in a Changing Places Toilet was an easy decision for us when we were drawing up our plans for the redevelopment of the Criffel View building. By installing this new facility we hope that that those who rely on them will not only choose to make use of our toilets, but will also be part of our new co-working community. Of course, the facility, once opened will also be accessible to those who visit The Crichton for other purposes, whether they work on site, study on site or are here to enjoy our grounds and gardens.”
With 1,567 now registered in the UK, there are only four other Changing Places Toilets in Dumfries and not many more across Dumfries and Galloway, so The Crichton Trust is proud to be adding another flag to the Changing Places map in Dumfries. It will also be the first Changing Places Toilet to be located within a Business Park in Scotland.
What can you expect from a Changing Places Toilet? More space, a height adjustable changing bench, a hoist, a peninsular toilet, a privacy screen, a paper roll for the bench, a non-slip floor, an emergency alarm and an accessible shower. But that’s not all, Crichton Central customers will also have access to free disabled parking spaces, accessible work and meeting spaces, free access to our landscaped grounds and gardens plus great coffee and even better company!
