Progress Update – wc 29th Jun
Gwilym Gibbons, Chief Executive of The Crichton Trust was heard saying earlier this week: “It’s a building that just keeps giving.” How true that is! We have already uncovered archways that we didn’t know existed, but this week while stripping back a wall to create a doorway, we found there was already one there! But it was Roy, our site foreman, who thought he had found the Criffel View treasure this week, when he came across an old Rover’s biscuit tin. Unfortunately for Roy, the tin was empty, but at least that means he is still with us for the rest of the Crichton Central journey! Hopefully someone has replaced it with a full box of biscuits for him!
For the plumbers and electricians, the first fixing is nearing completion. The biggest visible difference this week can be seen where new walls have been erected in the cafe area and in the new meeting rooms.
While we have been receiving many more deliveries than normal, we were very excited to receive delivery of our new ‘On Air’ sign this week. It is now in a safe place until we are ready to welcome Dumfries Community Radio Station (DCR Online), into their new studio in Criffel View.
The team at DCR Online had temporarily relocated to Campbell House to enable the refurbishment to take place, but due to Covid-19 they then had to set-up temporary radio stations at home. They will be more than excited about their return to work when they see the developments in Criffel View, but in the meantime they are setting up a regular Crichton Programme and they are keen to interview tenants and partners at The Crichton and to spread the word about what they do from their base here at The Crichton.
With over 80 tenants including public, private and third sector organisations and academic partners currently on site, we know Crichton Central will soon be buzzing with people and ideas – it will be a great place to foster new relationships and to drive innovation and we can’t wait to see what will be achieved as a result!
All going to plan, Crichton Central will be open from early 2021, with a new cafe, co-working spaces, meeting rooms, offices and an events space – it will not only connect people on site to each other, but it will attract new connections and it will connect us all to a whole new world of opportunities. Look out for details of our new membership packages and incentives as we prepare to connect with you in 2021.
